Last night my laptop decided to turn itself off for no reason. I tried to restart and it got to the "safety" screen listing my options for what to do but again it turned itself off before I could read it all. Tried a third time (this makes me feel really persistant), got windows to boot, but again it turned itself off. I let it sit overnight ( Read more... )

Mine does that on occasion, and I believe it might have something to do with overheating. My friend Bryan mentioned something else that it might be, but I can't remember now what it is. I'll let you know when I talk to him.

Kyle's comp did that all the time until he took the cover off the CPU. It was definitely an overheating problem with his computer.

mine did that a few times, exactly as you stated, kept shutting off, then let it sit and it was happy
my dad says that with laptops that they work at all is amazing; and when they flutter it's to be expected, something about condensing all the codes and components to fit in a laptop instead of a tower means that soemtimes they get confused or cranky

(when my comp gets all panty and stuff, i keep blowing on its bottom, and lift it off of what it's sitting on, especially if it's a bed. i know sometimes you type at bed too...just be aware of what the comp is resting on, i find carpets and beds make it overheat faster than a wooden desk)
