Oh man, Piper definitely had a bare chest and CFM boot period! (I think we all did back in the disco era -- speaking as someone unfortunately old enough to have worn skintight designer jeans with spandex in the denim, and blouses with linebacker shoulder pads -- with Candies heels, no less.)
This is a great fic, and I look forward to part 2.
What I took home with me from this is the surreality of everyday life in a superhero/villain world -- standing in the driveway wondering if the decorations are going to explode, and everyone acting as if that's a perfectly normal homeowner issue like termites or a leaking septic tank.
In terms of female hero costumes, I've always thought that I'd dress like Black Canary in her JLI years -- black slacks and rubber-soled flats. The irony is that I actually do dress like that nowadays, LOL...just add the funny collar, and there I am.
i'd probably end up WANTING to wear something bad ass and sexy like the golden age black canary outfit, drive myself crazy with the discomfort of fishnet wedgies, and then opt for comfort like wondergirl. after wearing a man-panties version of the robin costume for a brisk new england halloween weekend, i would most definitely include pants in any crime fighting ensemble.
and lol now i've got this mental image of piper doing his daily chores and steadily adding more and more things to the list as he develops friendships with odder and odder people. 'groceries, pet store for rat treats, pay the electric bill, check for traps from enemies, check for 'friendly' booby traps from trickster...' and so on XD
Oh, love this. Piper's the best uncle ever. And I'd have more meta-y comments on what the hell the body image issues must be like in the DCU....but I'm coughing up a lung here.
Delightful! I would so like to be a fly on the wall when Iris finally figures out/ is informed exactly what 'CFM' stands for. XD
My biggest beef with female superhero/supervillain fashion is when they take a costume that was both attractive and practical...and replace it with the stripper version. DX
i think i wanna be a fly on the wall when irey and jai realize their beloved honorary uncle used to wear them ;)
not gonna lie, i like a lot of the skanky super hero costumes. i grew up on jim lee x-men, after all. what i object to are the fanboys that act like such costumes are practical and plausible, even when a girl clearly couldn't run in such an ensemble because of A) impractical heels or B) no support for her double D or larger bust.
I think I remember someone pointing out how easy it would be for a boob to just pop out of a tiny tube top when you're repeatedly punching a villain*.
If I weren't so short, I'll totally wear C.F.M. boots, with no heels (which would be difficult to find), hey, boots are like protective. Silk shorts tucked in and then a mini-skirt over top. And something that only looks like a corset, wore over a shirt, is a good substitute for showing cleavage - which I find, gets COLD really fast!
*Given how it's usually Female Hero vs Female Villain, maybe there is a mutual understanding for a brief pause to tug things back in before the guys notice?
