So, Jane Birkin recently died, I vaguely knew who she was. Swinging London model/singer/fashion muse, style icon--the Hermès Birkin Bag is named after her--also an actor but mostly in French cinema. Most coverage of her death was accompanied by photos of her in her fabulous gorgeous heyday:

I've seen that movie a bunch of times (it's one of my favorite Agatha movies) and it seems to me they weren't trying to "ugly her up" so much as try to present her earlier in the film as having no sense of style. Speaking as a person with a good sense of style but who really is not good looking, there's a big difference.
