Was so sad to hear about Andy Rourke. I think I know every word to every Smiths song ever. And same about just try not to think about the dickhead-ishness of Morrissey. I recently rediscovered The Housemartins and I thought the lead singer reminded me a bit of if Morrissey found Jesus (not a bad thing, I like them. Just also super British and wordy and moody).
At least none of it ever shows up in his lyrics back then. Either Morrissey was one of those "9/11 turned me into a bigot" guys (which would be a little weird, seeing as he's not American), or it was just so easy to ignore minorities in 1980s England that he never really had to think about it.
