I'm glad to hear that Phil is doing better. Blood sugars are such a bitch to deal with, especially when you're as brittle as Phil seems to be. Getting them stable should help clear his mind some.

I've had times where my deep love of reading didn't seem be there and i was having trouble concentrating (in fact, I'm just now coming out of a spell like that) and it's so frustrating. I'd read but didn't seem able to follow stuff- mostly a problem with non-fiction. Thankfully I seem to be doing better. I have no idea what's causing it but I swear it gets worse when I spend too much time on the internet reading questions and answers on Quora or the like. When I switch from the short little items to a real book, my mind doesn't want to deal with the long form. I'm glad to hear that you've recovered your joy!

I always have a mini-existential crisis like that, too, if I’m not liking a book (“do I just not like reading anymore? I thought I was A Reader…”). I give myself permission to bail if I’m not interested, but sometimes I feel extra bad about that if it’s really critically acclaimed or popular - like, what am I missing?
