Hug. Big hug. It's not just hair. It's an expression of who you are and what you want to look like. And being forced to change that - when you don't want to, is pretty rotten.
Try not to despair though. You're beautiful, and you're beautiful for more than your hair. Even if you had to get it cut and change the colour, you'll still be you, and you'll still be all tits and waist! Har.
Oh no, I'm sorry to hear you reacted to Daniel Field dye as well :( I wonder whether the henna really would badly react - it's normally metallic dyes that interfere with henna. It might be worth a strand test just to know for sure. There's a website a friend pointed out to me that has different henna combinations on and some of them have been used over bleached hair - I'll dig it out for you and email it tomorrow.
When your body lets you down, it is uncomfortable and I would be just as upset at the thought of having to have my hair chopped off or changed to a colour that wasn't "me". I know it's not perfect but could you use a wig or extensions while it's growing out? I'll have a think and see whether there's anything else that might work.
20 years is a good time for black and purple hair. I only managed to have black and purple hair for 6 or 7 years before the repeated bleaching for the purple made my hair break too much and I had to cut it off and go for a 20s bob. (which I think would also look cute on you)
I would try the Henna, If you keep the bleached parts away when your doing it. I don't imagine it'd be too much of a problem. I'd just keep the dye times different. So do the purple 2 weeks before and then do the henna.
I understand how you're feeling - my hairdresser always says I have 'long hair syndrome' because like most people I just can't handle any change. However, you will look absolutely lovely no matter what your hair looks like.
Argh, I wish I knew more about hair to have some advise to give - but hair was never my forte. This demonstrated quite clearly by my uncertain hues & not too neat 40’s do (I’m too lazy to hide pins and check the back in the mirror
