I think several of those comments are being less than serious because it's just a movie. Others, like that first guy, yes, are full of fail. I say there's no proof they were killed, and I'd like to think they weren't, because I agree that killing for no reason is not cool, even if it is war. This is my favorite response. I laughed out loud.

It still begs the question, though, of what happened to the guys afterward.

Well, next stop was Yavin IV. Looks like the Rebel Alliance just got a handful of new conscripts! They would have been resentful at first until the Rebels go and blow up the Death Star. Then they would have gone, "Geez, in essence those guys saved our lives."

But nobody ever responds to the endless wank about Death Star technical specifications with the idea that it's just a movie. IDK, the comments just really bugged me-- especially the idea that military personnel (including civilian contractors) are all as guilty as the leadership, and have a say in where they're sent and what happens there, so therefore they all deserve to die. That bugs me on a personal level, since, well, that argument was actually used *to my face* to say that my husband deserved anything he got for working in the Pentagon because the US military is evil. I see red every time I see any flavor of that argument, even if it's about something fictional, because I'm all too aware that people actually think the same way about real life.

I agree, though, I hope they were merely stunned and not killed. Yeah, it's war, but the vast majority of mooks on TV shows/movies whose clothes the heroes need to borrow are sapped and tied up, not murdered.

The response you mentioned makes me want to write fic about them. :)
