so you might recall.. i seem to be attracting old footpumped sewing machines.. they find me.. they run to the salvation army and wait for me.. or they run to the curb.. anyway.. i now have 2.. both need total redos on the case.. they were both painted and both had peeling veneer... this kinda sucks cuz i loose the decals this way

You could try orange shellac for the top. It might give you the shade you're looking for (ran across your blog while looking for folks who like victrolas).
