Moms are so weird with that stuff. I'ts like "Okay, I'm just gonna get it out in the open... so ah.... do you and *_insert boyfriend name here_*... know all about.. erm... safety?"

It's like "Yes I know how babies are made. Yes I know what protections there are, and YES I know they are not 100% effective!!"

It's funny because in the book I'm reading, the wording of a character was pretty much the exact same as your post. She was mentioning her mother discussing sex with her fiance.
