Costume Con-xiety

Apr 03, 2009 14:40

So, I've got plans to go to a day of Costume-Con27 held on the first weekend in May. I've hopes to hit MDS&WFest the other day of the weekend. Since I'm only planning on attending one day, I figured getting a membership isn't worth it. (Or are there other perks to membership?)

So first of all, I can find no schedule posted for the weekend (even a ( Read more... )

Can you even go without getting a membership? Most Cons I've been to you have to have a membership to do anything. We thought about going but got scared off by the $100 ticket price.

I did see under the Memberships/How to Join page a listing for a evening pass 6pm-til as being $10, and a day pass including the evening as $45, which is what I was planning to do.

Ahhhh. cool. In which case, from personal experience in other cons (never been to Costume Con) they tend to have more stuff on Saturday than Sunday.

No answers, but I have all of the same questions. I'm in about the same place you are. My normal garb seems almost like cheating.

But your normal garb is so fabulous, *I* wouldn't consider it cheating for you.

Aw, thanks! It would seem like wearing my normal clothes for halloween, though!

You should totally do the walking suit.

It is a light-ish weight black wool. Might depend on the forecast. I'd need to check the fit and redo the hem on the jacket... Oh, and I forgot I bought a hat that will work with it, it just needs some touching up...

I'm planning to go to the Friday Night Social to meet up with the other 18thc. pin posse members on LJ. I'll probably be wearing 18thc. turquerie style.

I thought about going, but even a day trip for the kids and I would be $125.

There has GOT to be a cheaper day-rate for the kids, but I understand the cost issue when looking at more than just yourself.

It's a shame about the conflict, but CostumeCon is a blast. You can probably get a good feel for it on Saturday, but I'd really recommend you try to get back for the masquerade. That's really the culmination of the rest of the event and well worth taking in. Of course, the rest of the time, you'll miss workshops, which are great, too (I'm skipping S&W for the first time in 4 years).

Most folks don't actually compete, but pretty much everyone wears costumes, at least part of the time. My suggestion is to wear the nicest stuff you feel comfortable in. All the outfits you suggest sound fine. Also, consider staying over at the hotel. It's convenient--for changing clothes and since activities tend to go on to wee hours.

It's going to be lots of fun!

Thanks for the info. Any idea where a list of workshops is available for Saturday? And what time do the masquerades start on Sunday? Is there a schedule sent to members only or something?

I think I'll pass on the room though. If I need to change I can likely beg attack-laurel for access to her room in a pinch.

Currently I'm leaning towards S&W on Saturday and CC27 on Sunday for the masques. (I often have to miss S&W since it is the same weekend as Spring Crown for the SCA.)

Wow, that is a busy weekend!

As I understand it, the schedule of workshops is still up in the air. They did post a list of topics yesterday, but it's not really a schedule. The Masquerade is set, but the time isn't on the website--however I'm hosting our little sewing group tonight and the director of the historical masquerade should come. I'll let you know.

I don't think you'll have a tough time finding a change-out spot, even if you can't find Attack-Laurel. Costuming circles are small--there are likely to be lots of other folk you know around.
