At home, meteor showers were widely regarded as preludes to disastrous events. Of course, the City would never be so kind as to warn us of impending disaster.

If the City--or the deities--chose to, it would hardly be original. Ancient humans interpreted the presence of any abnormal celestial phenomena as undeniable signals of bad things to come. Of course, they stopped that to a large degree once Aristotle began propounding his theories regarding the structure of the universe, but--

But that doesn't matter, clearly. I'm not optimistic.
