20 Things Scotty Wandell Learnt From The Walker Family.

1. Tommy runs a Walker betting ring. Sarah won $50 when Kevin, Tommy and Justin got themselves arrested at Kitty’s wedding; it would have been $100 had Nora been detained as well.

2. Sex at work is a really bad idea. Robert keeps walking into Kevin’s office at the most inopportune moments.

3. Rebecca is a fan of Jane Austen and it’s one of the few things she and Kitty have in common. He managed to buy her a first edition of Pride & Prejudice for her birthday- Kevin just wishes he’d come up with the idea first.

4. Kevin really hates sleeping on his own- he even has a special pillow that he likes to curl up with on the nights they fight. The pillow invariably ends up spending the majority of the night on the floor when one of them caves and gets up to apologise.

5. Julia is a tennis fan. When asked she answers that Roddick is her favourite player, but secretly she’d much rather see a Nadal vs. Federer final- and not just for the tennis.

6. Kitty has an awful poker face. Even Paige can wipe the floor with her at Black Jack.

7. Paige can wipe the floor with most people at cards. Kevin aside, nobody is sure if this is a good thing.

8. Sarah is addicted to Minesweeper. She used to play it on her lunch breaks but Tommy uninstalled it after she broke her PC, having lost once again to the ‘cheating-son-of-a-bitch.’

9. Most of the Walkers- Sarah and Justin excepted- are SciFi nuts. Kevin and Kitty are both Buffy fans, Tommy likes all the Stargate shows and Rebecca loves that British show that Scotty can never remember the name of- he remembers it as the one with the guy with the big coat and the bright teeth.

10. Paige and Sophia don’t just look the same, they even act the same. They both do the same pout when they’re chastised, they roll their eyes the same way at their little brother’s antics, and they both have the same impish grin. Scotty wonders if anybody would take it the wrong way if he puts $20 on Sophia being a Walker and another $20 on Paige being a McCallister. He’s seen stranger things happen in this family.

11. Tommy knows all the words to Defying Gravity and has been known to sing it to Elizabeth when he thinks they are alone. Of course, he will deny this if ever confronted.

12. It’s not a good idea to ask if you can turn the Walker’s lives into a television-sitcom. Apparently, one family member selling out the family is more than enough. He pretends he doesn’t know about that screenplay on Kevin’s laptop, entitled The Smith Family or the book on Rebecca’s hard drive that keeps getting longer and longer.

13. Sarah and Kitty are both scared of horror films- particularly ones with Slovakian vampires. Once, when the girls had been left to babysit their three younger brothers (when Justin still spent most of his time sleeping) they watched the movie with the intention of scaring the boys. They way Kevin tells it, things didn’t go according to plan.

14. Saul is the most amusing drunk Walker. Where the others get either excessively emotional or violent, Saul is a happy, cuddly, drunk. He once started dancing with one of Nora’s potted plants because he thought it was looking a bit down in the dumps.

15. Saul’s also a talkative drunk. He’ll talk about anything once he’s gotten a bottle- or several- of merlot inside him. He tells embarrassing tales about Kevin and his siblings growing up, Nora fighting with the neighbours and he even once confessed - though, admittedly, he had consumed the best part of two bottles of valpolicella at the time- that he used to dream about being kidnapped by Captain Kirk. Scotty’s never told anybody about that one.

16. Kevin is not the only Walker with show tunes on his iPod. Sarah threatened to castrate him if he told anybody that she has the entire Cats soundtrack on her iPod, hidden under the name of Shannon Noll, some Australian singer nobody’s ever heard of.

17. Never ever play Monopoly with the Walkers- Kevin even has a scar on his scalp from where Kitty threw the metal shoe at him when they were kids. Scotty ended up taking Justin to the ER the last time they played as Sarah had gotten a bit too expressive with her toy car and, with a bit of help from the dining room table, managed to give Justin a concussion.

18. Never play Scrabble with them either. Chances are you’ll spend more time looking up disputed words in the dictionary than actually playing the game. Boggle, too.

19. Kitty’s assistance in the kitchen is to be avoided, no matter what the cost. If at all possible, Kitty should not be allowed within twenty meters of the kitchen or any sort of cooking appliance. He remembers her cheese on toast debacle in vivid detail, and that’s without the nightmares that frequently haunt his sleeping hours. He still breaks out in a cold sweat just thinking about it.

20. They drink too much, they fight far more often than is healthy and illegitimate off-spring are more common than legitimate ones but there is no other family he would have rather married into.

Like it? Love it? Loathe it? Let me know :c)
