The poor life of an arts grad...

Just read the article in today's papers about graduates being unemployed. It's worse than I thought. What's more, arts grads in particular are at a losing end. Only 64% of last year's NUS cohort were employed by the end of last year. Darn ( Read more... )

When I graduated from uni. in a few years ago, I was in a similar situation as yourself. Throughout high school and university, I enjoyed & excelled in the Humanities & Social Sciences, hence I majored in Anthropology. When I graduated, I had no idea what I was going to do b/c my Anthro skills were quite specialized, and let's face it, you don't see job postings for Anthropologists in the newspapers. I learnt the importance of creating opportunities for yourself and networking. Yes, BA's do have a harder time in the job market, but if you persist, the "cool" job will be yours.

I worked as a Production Coordinator for Warner Bros. for 2 years. Now I work for a small production company, as a Casting Assistant.

I was the first batch (or second batch?) of students to enter CJC when SML first entered. And look at what she did to CJ for the few years that she was there, pulled EVERYTHING down to rock bottom. So horrifying. I wasn't that affected then as she was quite new to the school, but I can imagine the later batches. I'm not sorry to say this, she totally fails as a principle. Boo to SML!!

don't be too worried about the choices you made. after several years, what you majored in in school wouldn't matter anymore. :)

how 'bout trying the civil service? or look overseas. :)

oh, one more thing. you should pride yourself and you made a successful switch from science to arts. i once tried taking an arts class, the history of the roman army, and had to drop cos i was gonna fail miserably if i didn't. :o

don't worry about a thing!
offensive as this may sound
people with good looks always get employed.
they've got a first-class ticket in life

*heh* Not sure to be offended or not, but even good looking people come in hordes.

available jobs < good looking people = some jobless people
