I guess I should clarify that I don't mean a self-insert in the traditional sense; there would be no Mary-Sue avatar, you're just you. I suppose making anything like this interesting hinges on the ability for the writer to write herself truthfully: you don't become rich, thin, beautiful and famous because everyone loves a rich, thin, famous, beautiful woman. I got to thinking about whether or not I'd find Cutler Beckett interesting if I met him 'IRL', which led to thoughts of whether or not he'd find me interesting, etc

Although the 'character goes back in time' or 'character magically appears in the future' type thing is a bit overdone, I do think you would be able to come up with something fun and original :)

Thank you, I'll take that as a compliment. Though I wouldn't go the time-travel route. It's more of a character-made-flesh route. It's a subtle difference.

It's actually kind of funny you brought this up, before I write anything serious, sometimes even while I'm writing, I also write a journal of "green room" expiriences to help me get a feel for the character. I write their interactions with me and my other characters in different fandoms. (James is good friends with the Phantom of the Opera.)

Oh, really? You should post some of them. I bet they're interesting, or at least good for a laugh. I think up green room stuff all the time, but I don't usually write it down.
