I have worked at Petco. I hated it...mostly due to managements' lack of concern over the animals' health. It was in West Des Moines, IA nearly 8 years ago. The bottom line is it's a corporation and they sell pets for money, not caring if the customer is able to give the proper care to the pet. I can write more if you want.
i would agree with that - then again, i'd say that about most places that specialize in selling pets (especially dogs and cats). i worked at the one in independence about 9 years ago, probably.
Yeah I figured it probably wouldn't be a place I'd really like to work, but it was one of the choices. I think I'm probably going to go for half price books, it seems like a fun atmosphere, and not too stressful for when i start school. Thanks for the input!
One of the reason i was asking about these places was to also ask if anyone knew if they required a drug test. and I ask not because I don't think mine would be clean, it's because I really can't do it! The last time I had to take one I had to go so bad but couldn't, and the lady told me I was probably what they call a shy pee'er. haha, so now I'm too nervous to even think about taking another one. Did you have to for Michaels?
yes on all three accounts. you can add the movie theater, old navy, the starbucks drive through, QFC, Top Food, CD warehouse, the daily planet,
and that's just with myself, and immediate friends that I knew prior to them working there.
as far as I recall Michael's did not require a drug test. (I am 80% sure, but I'll have to check with my friend who worked there). as far as drug tests go, the only places i have heard of that do them are national retail places like target, and circuit city.
they didn't even drug test me when I worked pizza delivery at domino's (if they had, 90% of the staff would be gone.)
Half Priced Books is probably the best option out of the list. but they are a bit hard to get hired to (it's a "you've got it or you don't thing" I haven't figured out what their magic criteria is yet). they pay the best, and have the most relaxed retail environment.
cool, thanks for the input. What irritates me is that half priced books had a now hiring sign up on monday so i took the app back today and it was already down and they said they weren't hiring. I went ahead and applied at Ross downtown on pike. it seems kinda trashy, but I am desperate for a job. I would apply for the michaels job but after getting the most ridiculous ticket in bellevue today, i'd rather just get a job i can walk to. Oh, yeah, I'm Sarah by the way!
HI! I am Christopher. and, yeah. that is the manner of nonsense that I would get all the time when applying to Half Price. and, really, It's harder for me to think of a place where someone I know hasn't worked in that particular slice of the eastside.
all in all, retail sucks so hard. and that's all there is to it. now that I am out of that whole world, the "real" world seems so... easy. you should go for broke and apply to elliot bay books. I mean, that's the one job i'd consider going back into retail for "for the love of the game" or whatever.
