“It’s hard for me to say the things I want to say sometimes…I never knew I had a dream until that dream was you…You pick me up when I fall down…You ring the bell before they count me out…If I was drowning you would part the sea…And risk your life to rescue me…All I’ve got to give to you are these five words…Thank you for loving me.”
--Thank You for Loving Me by Bon Jovi
Monte picked Tommy up from rehab the following week. Adam had a meeting with the record label. They were getting antsy for a new album. Adam assured them that he was ready to get back into the studio.
Adam arrived home only minutes before Monte got there with Tommy. He was putting away the groceries that he had just picked up when he heard the front door open.
“Honey, we’re home.” Monte called out with a laugh as the door shut again.
Adam smiled and went out to greet his friends. Tommy looked good. He looked healthy and happy for the first time in a long time. Adam went over and pulled him into a hug.
“I’m glad you’re home.” Adam whispered into Tommy’s ear.
“I’m glad to be home.” Tommy replied.
“Okay, well, if y’all don’t need anything else, I’m just gonna go.” Monte stated feeling a little uncomfortable. Obviously, they wanted to be alone.
“Thanks for picking me up, man.” Tommy told him as he turned to look at him. He stayed by Adam’s side though.
“No problem. I’ll see you later.” Monte spoke as he headed out the door.
When Monte was gone, Adam pulled Tommy into another embrace. He had really missed him, but he hadn’t realized how much until he was home. Tommy returned the hug and rested his head on Adam’s chest.
“So are you hungry?” Adam asked finally pulling away from the blonde.
“I’m starving. Monte wouldn’t stop for any food.” Tommy answered as he followed Adam into the kitchen.
“I’m glad that he didn’t. I stopped at the store and got all your favorite junk food. I thought that we’d celebrate your homecoming by feasting on all the food that I always tell you is bad for you.” Adam explained as he showed Tommy all the food he had.
“This is perfect.” Tommy replied with a smile. He leaned over and kissed Adam’s cheek.
Adam beamed at him as he dug through the bags. When they had gathered all the food together, they went into the living room. Adam put their favorite movie, Velvet Goldmine, into the DVD player and sat beside Tommy. They ate and watched the movie, but they didn’t talk. The silence wasn’t exactly awkward, but it wasn’t comfortable either. They both knew they needed to talk, but neither was sure how to start.
“We should talk.” Tommy stated when the movie was over. The boys were sitting on opposite ends of the couch.
“I know.” Adam replied as he sat up and turned the TV off.
“I’m sorry for everything that I said and did to hurt you. I never wanted to hurt you.” Tommy affirmed as he moved closer to Adam.
“I know. You weren’t yourself. It was the drugs.” Adam replied as he took Tommy’s hand.
“I’m still sorry…for what I did at the club that night…for the way I treated you the next day…for shoving you into the wall. I wish that I could take it all back.” Tommy spoke as he tangled their fingers together.
“Tommy, I know that the person who did those things wasn’t the real you. You’re not that person and I’m confident that you aren’t going to be that person again.” Adam explained as he looked at their hands.
“You’re just so amazing, Adam. You’ve been the best thing to ever happen to my life. I never thought my dreams would come true until I met you.” Tommy told him as he looked him in the eyes.
“You’re talented. You would have had an amazing career without me.” Adam declared as he looked away.
“I’m not talking about those dreams.” Tommy whispered as he brought his hand up to turn Adam’s face back to his.
“What are you talking about then, Tommy?” Adam breathed.
“I’m talking about my dreams of finding someone that I love…that loves me back…that I could spend the rest of my life with.” Tommy responded with sincerity.
“I do love you, Tommy, but you’re…”Adam exhaled as he closed his eyes.
“I’m nothing with out you. That’s what I am.” Tommy stated before chastely kissing Adam’s lips.
“You’re straight.” Adam still had his eyes closed. He couldn’t bear to look at Tommy.
“I always thought that I was. I was never attracted to a man until I met you, but there was always something missing with the girls I was with. I never knew what it was, but now I do. I wasn’t in love with them. I’m in love with you.” Tommy kissed him again.
“Are you sure that this is what you want?” Adam asked as he finally looked at Tommy again.
“I’m more sure than I’ve ever been about anything else in my life.” Tommy answered with a smile.
“Good because I’m in love with you too.” Adam admitted before capturing Tommy’s lips.
The boys moved closer together and deepened the kiss. Tommy wrapped his arms around Adam’s neck and tangled his fingers in his hair. Adam placed one hand on Tommy’s back and the other on his neck. He pulled Tommy even closer to him. He had wanted this for so long, but he didn’t want to rush Tommy. After a few minutes, he broke away from Tommy.
“Why did you stop?” Tommy panted. They rested their foreheads together.
“I don’t want to rush you. We can just take things slow.” Adam soothed.
“Babyboy, just take me upstairs already.” Tommy demanded.
Adam looked at him and smirked. He leaned in and kissed him slowly. When they broke the kiss, Adam stood up and took Tommy’s hand. He led him upstairs. He still wanted to take things slow, but he was glad that he was going to finally have Tommy in his bed.
