“I can’t believe that it’s our ten year high school reunion already.” Adam declared as he walked up to the school with Scarlett and Lee.
They were his only friends from high school that he was still close to after all these years. He talked to some of his other friends, but not regularly. He hadn’t seen Tommy since Christmas break the first year after they graduated high school. They had tried to make the long distance relationship work, but in the end it had been too hard.
“I feel old and fat.” Scarlett stated bitterly.
“Baby, you’re not old and you’re pregnant, not fat.” Lee told her as he wrapped an arm around her.
“Do you think he’ll be there?” Adam asked his friends.
“I don’t know. We haven’t heard from him in ages.” Scarlett replied.
There was no need to ask him who he was talking about. Even though it had been ten years, Adam still carried a torch for Tommy. It was true that you never really got over your first love.
The last Adam had heard Tommy was in San Francisco. He was playing guitar with some band. Adam had spent the last several years living in New York and working on Broadway. He had just moved to L.A. to pursue a music career.
The trio walked into the gym and was instantly transported back to high school. They gym was decorated in the same fashion as it had been for their senior prom.
“This was much more impressive when we were eighteen.” Lee stated with a laugh.
The three friends walked further into the party. They got drinks and mingled with former classmates. No one recognized Adam. He looked totally different that he had in high school. He had lost some weight and dyed his hair black. He had more confidence than back then too.
At some point during the evening, Adam lost track of Scarlett and Lee. He scanned the crowd, but was unable to find them. He got himself another drink and settled against the wall. He was reminded of high school. Unless he was with his friends, people pretty much left him alone.
“Adam.” A voice called his name. He around to see who was talking to him. He was shocked when he saw his former boyfriend.
“My God…I thought that was you. You look amazing.” Tommy stated as he hugged him.
“Tommy…It’s good to see you.” Adam responded as he hugged him back.
When they released each other from the embrace, Tommy looked Adam up and down again. He had changed so much in ten years, but he looked incredible.
“I was hoping that you’d be here tonight.” Tommy told him after a moment.
“Really?” Adam asked with a raised eyebrow.
“Yeah…It’s been so long. I’ve…” Tommy began to say.
“Tommy!” Scarlett shrieked as she spotted her friend.
Tommy looked at Adam sadly and turned to Scarlett. They hugged and kissed each other’s cheeks.
“Scar, you look good. I can’t believe you’re pregnant.” Tommy told her.
“Well, you’d know that already if you kept in touch.” Scarlett reprimanded him.
“I know. I’m sorry. I’ve been a terrible friend, but I’m gonna do better now. I just moved back to L.A., so I’ll be around more. We can get together…All of us.” Tommy explained making sure to look at Adam.
“Adam just moved back to L.A. as well.” Lee spoke.
Adam and Tommy smiled at one another again. Adam knew that he still had feelings for Tommy, but he hadn’t realized how much until he saw him again. He saw a familiar light in Tommy’s eyes and hoped that maybe he still had some feelings for him as well.
As the night went on, everyone continued to catch up. It was just like old times. They had found a seat at a table in the back. Scarlett needed to get off her feet. A few of their other friends from high school had joined them. They talked about old times. As Scarlett was telling the story about the time that she and Lee had gotten locked in the girl’s bathroom, Tommy reached over and grabbed Adam’s hand under the table. Adam smiled. Back in school, they had held hands under the table every chance they got.
As the night neared its end, Adam and Tommy found themselves alone at the table. They were still holding hands.
“God, Adam, I’ve missed this so much. I’ve missed you.” Tommy declared as he squeezed Adam’s hand.
“Me too.” Adam told him squeezing his hand back.
“When I walked in and saw you, my heart started racing. It hasn’t stopped since.” Tommy said as he took a deep breath.
“Let’s get out of here. Come back to my place with me.” Adam commanded.
Tommy smiled and nodded his head in agreement. Quickly, they found Scarlett and Lee to tell them that they were leaving. They said that they were just going somewhere more private to catch up, but Scarlett knew what they were really going to do.
The two men held hands and giggled as they swiftly made their way to Tommy’s car. They continued to hold hands as Tommy drove through the city to Adam’s apartment.
Immediately, Adam pushed Tommy into the wall when they entered his apartment. Their lips locked. Adam ground his body into Tommy’s. Tommy moaned and slid his tongue into Adam’s mouth. After a few minutes, Adam took his kisses to Tommy’s neck as he began to fumble with his clothes.
“God, Adam, no one before or since has ever made me feel like this.” Tommy declared as Adam pulled his shirt over his head.
Adam stopped what he was doing and just looked into Tommy’s eyes. He saw love and desire.
“Tommy, I know what you mean, baby. I tried to forget about you, but no matter what I did I wasn’t able to. I never stopped loving you.” Adam stated as he rested his forehead against Tommy’s forehead.
“I never stopped loving you either. Can we try this again? Can we make it work this time?” Tommy quizzed running his hands along Adam’s back.
“I want to try.” Adam whispered before capturing Tommy’s lips in another kiss.
As the kiss intensified, they removed each other’s clothing. When they were naked, Adam took Tommy’s hand and led him to his bedroom. They tumbled into bed and took their time to relearn each other’s bodies.
When Adam finally pushed into Tommy, they both sighed in contentment. They felt like they were where they belonged. Ten years had done nothing to change the feelings between them.
