It was time for a day of rest and relaxation at the beach. A little fun in the sun as Adam had put it. The tour was over and they had a few weeks until they were headed overseas. Adam had insisted that they all spend a day together at the beach before going their separate ways for the rest of the break. Everyone had agreed.
Adam and Tommy were both fair skinned people who were prone to sunburns. Because of this, they had gotten the strongest sunscreen they could find. Before joining their friends on the beach, they had taken turns covering each other with the sunscreen. As the day progressed and they played in the ocean, they had reapplied the sunscreen.
How was it then that Adam was lying on their hotel bed with his back as red as a lobster? Tommy had no idea. Adam was miserable. Luckily, Tommy had escaped the sun’s harsh rays, so he could take care of Adam.
While Adam lay naked in bed, Tommy ran around to five different stores in search of aloe vera lotion.
When Tommy walked back into their room, he saw that Adam hadn’t moved a muscle. He felt bad for his boyfriend.
“I’m back, baby. I’m sorry it took me so long. I had to go to a bunch of different places to find it.” Tommy explained as he carefully sat on the bed beside Adam.
Adam only groaned in response. Tommy could feel the heat radiating off of Adam without even touching him. He hoped that Adam didn’t get sun poisoning.
“Adam, baby, I’m gonna put some of this lotion on you. It’ll cool the sunburn down some. I’ll be as gentle as I can.” Tommy told him as he opened the bottle of lotion.
He squirted some of the lotion into his hands. He took a deep breath and began applying it to Adam’s shoulders. Adam winced and moaned a little.
“I’m sorry, babyboy. I know it hurts, but I promise this will make it feel better.” Tommy whispered as he continued to spread the lotion all over his boyfriend’s back.
Tommy tried to be as gentle as possible, but Adam still winced every few seconds. Fortunately, Adam’s back and shoulders had been the only place to get seriously sunburned. When Tommy was done covering Adam with the green gel, he closed it and placed it on the night stand. They would definitely need more later.
“Baby, can I get you anything else?” Tommy asked quietly.
“No.” Adam replied.
Tommy got up and went to the bathroom to wash his hands. While he was in there, he wet a washcloth with cold water to place on Adam’s neck. As he headed back to the bed, he grabbed a bottle of water and a straw.
“I brought you a wet washcloth for your neck and a bottle of water.” Tommy declared as he climbed on the bed beside Adam.
Adam looked up at him and smiled faintly. Tommy placed the washcloth on Adam’s neck. Adams sighed a little. It felt pretty good. Tommy opened the water and slipped the straw into it.
“Baby, can you…can you maybe roll onto your side so you can get a drink of water? You need to stay hydrated. I don’t want you to get sick.” Tommy spoke.
Adam sighed and rolled onto his side. The movement hurt, but once he was on his side he felt okay again. Tommy held the straw to Adam’s mouth as he drank. When he was done drinking, he flopped back down on his stomach with a groan. Tommy sat the water down and returned the washcloth, which had fallen when Adam moved, to his neck.
“You should try to get some sleep. You’ll feel better when you wake up.” Tommy told him as he gently ran his fingers through Adam’s hair.
Adam sighed and closed his eyes. In no time at all, Tommy’s noticed Adam’s breathing had evened out. He knew he was asleep. Tommy leaned down and softly kissed Adam’s cheek.
As Adam slept, Tommy flicked through the television channels. There wasn’t much on, so he finally settled on a John Wayne movie.
A few hours later, Adam was still asleep beside him. However, Tommy could tell that the aloe vera was starting to wear off. He could feel the heat from Adam’s body again. He retrieved the lotion and began to reapply. Adam stirred a little, but didn’t open his eyes. When he was done with the lotion, he got Adam a fresh washcloth from the bathroom.
“You take such good care of me, glitterbaby.” Adam breathed as Tommy placed the cool rag on his neck.
“You’d do the same for me.” Tommy whispered as he lay down beside Adam.
They were face to face. Tommy could see that Adam was still tired.
“I’d do anything for you. I love you.” Adam declared as his eyes drifted closed again.
“I love you too, babyboy.” Tommy responded before chastely kissing Adam’s lips. “Now, just get some rest.”
Tommy reached out and carefully moved a piece of Adam’s hair from his face. He was asleep again. Tommy kissed him again before closing his own eyes.
As Tommy drifted off to sleep, he swore that next time they had a day of fun in the sun; Adam was going to wear a shirt. He was also going to make sure that sunscreen was applied to every inch of exposed skin like every half hour. He never wanted to see Adam like this again.
