Well we got Lester and Lester has been the ace all season while Beckett has been all on/off, Wake has the chance to really turn it on at times, Byrd has shown he can get it done in the postseason, and Dice has been decent this season. But however, Beckett is at another level in postseason so it's okay to hyperventilate a little.
You know, 98% of team who make it to postseason do make it on talent but those teams all also have a little bit of luck in forms of injury freeness, the majority of borderline calls/bounces going their way, and other little things. Then there's that 2% who make it on talent and depth alone. They may not make it far, but they surely earned their spot in October.
The 2008 Red Sox are in the latter. So I can't be mad at them at all if they don't make it through October.
I would actually feel as though they were more accomplished if they made it far without Beckett; it just shows that they really ARE that good.
I'm just sad that he's injured AGAIN.
And I'm worried about how we're going to fare without his magic arm in the postseason. He kinda was Mr. Fantastically Awesome and Commander Kickasstastic last year :/
