Goodbye, Manny...

Jul 31, 2008 17:03

This is my reactionary post. This is for the part of me that loves Manny and will still love Manny even on teh Dodgers. This is the part of me that is sad. It's an end of an era in Boston, and as Jerry Remy had put it in May 2007 "I dunno when the Manny Era is gonna end, but it's gonna be a sad day" and they're right. It is pretty sad. I'm sorry ( Read more... )

*sigh*, i love baseball, red sox, newsage, boredom, manny being manny, mlb, :(, sadness, random, baseball, signings/trades

You put all of this so well, Piney.

Right now I just want to curl up in a corner and cry, I really do. Yes, Zen Manny did change over the course of this season. Damned poisonous Boras. If it had gotten so bad that even the other players wanted him traded (as was posted by someone on Texy's trade thread), you know it had to be time. But it's so sad. At his best, Manny was transcendent. And even not at his best, he was very entertaining most of the time. I wonder if the Sox will regret this day somewhere down the line?

I guess I'll have to retire my Manny shirt to nightshirt status, but I'll still root for him no matter where he plays. He recently expressed the desire for peace, and I sure do hope he finds it.

i am going to miss manny as well. they broke the mold when they made that cat, and it won't be the same around here without him. that said, although i'll always like manny, i'm so not going to miss the media circus that piled up this season. goodness! also, i'm very much with you on wondering how much boras had to do with this, because i have never ever trusted him. at all.

maybe this is all because manny doesn't have his julian tavarez squeeze toy anymore?

Yeah... I'm sad to see him go, but I think it was time. Too bad it had to end with so much acrimony. :(

Acrimony. Yes, exactly. I was trying to come up with that word earlier but it wouldn't register in my mind. It describes this situation exactly, though.

Very nicely said, Piney.

I will miss Manny, but I am glad that he is gone, and all this trade drama is over. Now the team can just go back to focusing on playing baseball without having to answer 3000 questions about Manny a day.

He came to Boston, did what he was brought here to do, and it was his time to leave.
