Jon Lester is what makes sports great....

I really wanna try to put this into words as eloquent as humanly possible but honestly, I don't think I can really do it justice. However, I'll do my damndest. I'm not really one of those jock types who you would think watches sports. I mean I may dress like one, but my personality is of a quiet shy artsy chick. A good chunk of my friends aren't ( Read more... )

i love baseball, red sox, jon lester, boredom, postgame wrapup, w00ten, mlb, good times had by all, random, baseball

I didn't even think of Rizzo. Wow--I betcha Jon threw like he did tonight just so he could show Rizzo that it's okay and anyone can overcome anything. Because, seriously... that's just great timing.

Jon, I LOVE YOU.

Beautiful writing, Piney, as always. I think I'm going to add Lester to my list of "Sox shirts I need to buy." And as far as I'm concerned, no game even comes close to baseball. It's the best in so many ways. And now I'm getting all wibbly too.

I agree with all of this comment! I only have Sox shirts that don't have players on them, because there are so many I like and I haven't been able to decide which one to get a shirt of. But I think I might have to get a Lester shirt, because of, well, everything. Like Piney said, what makes sports great. When people ask me why I care about baseball ("It's just a game! So what?") I can use him as an example.

Plus, he's one of the only players whose name my mom recognizes. It's because of the cancer thing, she's really sentimental and love stories like that. So if I mention him, she says "Oh, he's the Red Sox player who had cancer, right?" which is unlike every other player when she only guesses they're for the Sox because it's the most logical answer.

You put that far better than I ever could have...that's it in a nutshell. You nailed it!

I was stunned when I heard about Rizzo a few days ago...if I recall correctly, I own that kid's card. I think I'll hang it up on my wall next to a picture of Lester and Tek now...because I think he'll hang in there, too, and hopefully he'll achieve great things, like Jon did tonight (and has been doing for the past few years).

:) glad you were able to make sense of my ramblings.

I'm seriously pulling for that kiddo. I hope he beats it and I hope he'll kick as much ass as Lester is(and Lowell too since he underwent cancer treatment back in the day).
