This is what happens when you are bored at 2am and you can't sleep. I began to wonder one night "Who exactly ARE the best players of this past decade?" and I thought of ways to measure it. Thanks. I was kinda surprised about Hudson as well, but more or less a kind of "I've kinda taken him for granted" feel more than anything else. He's pretty damn underrated.

I think people underrate Hudson because he was part of such a strong rotation on a smaller-market team (Zito got a bulk of the national publicity/attention given his Cy Young Award + personality), when he could have easily been a number one anywhere. And now he's on a mid-market team, but one where strong pitching is considered to be the norm, so it's not like OMG GREAT PITCHER!!1!

That is true. I think part of my underrating him was because I had a pathological hatred of the 2003 Oakland A's for no apparent reason. But I'm over that now....for the most part.

Mel, have you ever considered writing for a sports blog, or some other sports media? You seem to have a knack for it, and if you can negotiate statistical analysis like this I'm sure you'd be an attractive candidate for those types of jobs.

I'd totally love to but I can get a little on the flaky side at times so that may not be the best with that. However, I just need a good kick in the ass every so often and I think I'll be good w/ that kinda stuff.

Thanks. I like looking up these kind of things however random or interesting and then putting them together to see if something I originally thought was true or not.
