and another one for the "only in Hurstbridge" file:

Whilst walking to the station this morning, I saw in the distance what I thought to be a large chicken or rooster loose on the footpath. As i got closer I realised it was in fact a very bewildered and lost looking peacock. Of course, they wander the footpaths regularly!

I reported it at the railway station, which is about the only thing open that time of day. I didnt think to call wires. I stood for a while contemplating running back home to get a blanket to throw over it and then keeping it at home with the chickens, but didnt know if they were ok in the same pen. It was difficult to get close to and i wasnt sure what was best to do in the end, so thought letting the station know would get the message through to the owner, as is often the case down here. Someone always knows who has what, particularly a large, loud peacock.

Now that visual goes with the flower pot on the head and the mohair wrap and just another day in Hursty....lady wandering up the road with large peacock under arm.

At my last house, someone down the road had guinea fowls, and the pair of them used to get out and wander the street making an unruly sound. I suppose they were just too big for the cats to tackle.
