Title: Muffin affair
Pairing: Ryo, Ueda,
Raiting: G, office AU!
Summary: A drabble related to The no-talk project for tokeruyouna who "asked" for it on this meme. Ryo doubts HR decisions in his new company.
I could not possibly recreate the atmosphere of the original, so I only hope this is not a complete let down.

"Are you sure that you actually know what you are doing?” Ryo asks Nakamaru the third day after he had been employed by the said man.

“Excuse me, Nishikido-kun?” Nakamaru does not even raise an eyebrow. He is too good at profiling not to notice that Nishikido-kun has very questionable people skills. Strangely enough, he is great with customers, when he needs to represent.

“How can someone so air-headed work as a secretary for such an old lady like our boss? Jin is too young and has no clue about what is going on. And the new guy, Ueda-san, is just plain weird. What does he want to be anyway-with the face like that?”

“Nishikido-kun, I expect you to treat your co-workers with respect. Ueda-kun has potential and more experience than you, and I will be looking forward to some very effective and creative cooperation between you two.” Ryo stares after that, first at Nakamaru, but then his eyes shift towards the young, pale man with long black hair. Ueda is currently mumbling and looking at his feet as he introduces himself to someone in his department. They shake hands awkwardly, Ueda taking a step back and pulling the hand away too quickly.

“That is impossible,” Ryo says but does not stop watching Ueda. Nakamaru just smiles.

“He has huge fish-like lips and has not seen daylight in years. He speaks too quietly, and I swear I saw him trip on thin air. And he twirls when getting up from his chair,” Ryo whines to Jin a few days later after a few beers they went out for to break the ice. “How can I even take him seriously? How can any customer take him seriously?”

“Ryo-chan seems to know a lot about Ueda-san. After just a week of observing too,” Jin giggles.

“I´m not observing him. Don’t say stupid things.” Ryo huffs and orders more beer. Jin just waves his hand in front of their faces with very little of purpose.

“Ryo-chan, you shouldn’t make Ueda-san cry. You better go and apologize tomorrow,” Jin says to a toilet cubicle door. Ryo has been hiding in there ever since Ueda’s cheek glittered with the wetness of a first tear.

“I hate him. And he calls himself a man? Men don’t cry. He looked . . . he looked . . . “

“Pretty?” Jin suggests. Ryo hits the door with his fist where he thinks Jin’s ear is. “

“You do not hate him. Look at you, you are moping here because you overdid it and made him cry. I’m sure if you just say so tomorrow, Ueda-san will give you a smile.” Jin continues. His boss sent him on a mission, and he does not want to fail her because she is kind and kind of cute.

“I don’t want him to smile at me. I want him to do something about himself. To toughen up.” Ryo kicks the door from the inside. “I can’t work with a pussy.”

“See, you care. And you can’t fool me,” Jin says in between jumping up, trying to see what Ryo is doing on the other side. “I saw you, always leaving him the muffin he likes, even though it’s your favorite. Yesterday you gave it back into the basket when you found out that it was the last one and he had not snatched one yet.”

“I did no such thing,” Ryo almost shouts and the door bangs open. Ryo’s cheeks are red, and Jin has to wonder if it is because of anger or embarrassment. Ryo is glaring so hard he has a wrinkle on his forehead. “Ueda Tatsuya is girly and clumsy, has lips too big for his head and inappropriate hair for his job. If I am to work with him, he better do something about himself.”

Jin pokes Ryo’s cheek as the other attempts to wash his hands and then his face, continuing to ramble on about all the things that are wrong with Ueda. Jin stops only when Ryo faces him, arms crossed, eyebrow raised.

“What do you want?”

“Ryo-chan thinks Ueda is pretty. You want him to notice you. Maybe, next time, you could just share the muffin with him.” Jin sing-songs as he leaves to report back to his boss. Her son is in the office today, and Jin thinks he is cool.

The next day, Jin only shakes his head as Ueda and Ryo fight over the last muffin. He wonders if maybe he has said a bit too much the day before.

end (lol, kind of)

Note:I´ve been toying with this idea ever since I learned I will have to write in this verse but I guess I was hoping to come up with something better. At the end, I just really wanted to write it down. Sorry if it kind of shifted the original for someone.
