OMG I am so glad you've got rid of that awful person who shared your office! *happy dance* That's the kind of aggravation that would drive me insane. New office mate sounds about ideal.

*nods* You've done the right thing for everyone with regard to Lola. If things hadn't settled down to mostly-toleration between Cleo and Mr Horrible, I would have been looking for another home for Cleo, because it's not good for animals - any more than for us - to be living in a stressful environment.

It sounds as though your mother must be really looking forward to being closer to you. Excellent news that you're on an even keel with regard to your father. *hugs*

You have no idea how glad I was, and how surprised to find out how much having to share with her actually contributed to work-related misery.

That's what I thought, too. It wasn't only Lucy and Lola who were getting increasingly stressed; what I found particularly galling was that Rambo was so terribly afraid of them both after their fights. Had this situation continued for much longer, I'm afraid his relationship with Lucius would've suffered, too.

Yes, my mother *is* looking forward to it a lot, although a bit daunted by the prospect of the move itself. But I'm determined to help as much as possible.

I don't think it's a coincidence that work that you're no longer sharing an office with a spectacularly annoying person and you finding more contentment in work, even unchallenging work.

I'm so glad you were able to find Lola a good home with someone who dearly wanted a kitty. I'm sure Rambo and Lucius will be much happier without having to deal with her aggression. *meeps and applies antibiotic ointment for wounds*

And I hope your parents grasp their good fortune in your ability and willingness to offer them the comfort and support of your proximity. And hooray for excellent therapists and finding that old wounds no longer pain you.

This is such a great update that I want to hug you and say, "Well done!!"

almost-PS DO IT! DO IT! DO IT! No expectations! Just whatever you want to do!

It's by no means a coincidence; I had just been unaware of the strong impact of awful colleague's presence on my mood.

To be fair, Lucy was the aggressive one, and Lola was being a pain by blocking access to food. Unfortunately she also tried to establish dominance by eating obsessively, and got very fat. Now, at Irene's place, she's eating fairly little, although part of that may be due to relocation-induced stress.

Yep, I think I'm going to participate, but I've got till Sunday to ponder the decision ;-)

I always enjoy your posts about your travels and embassy work, but as long as your mother is alive and needs you, I am glad for you both that you are nearby. I was living thousands of miles away when I lost my mom unexpectedly, which I will always regret. *HUGS*

(high-fives to Rambo and Lucius!)

Well, I'd intended to stay in Vienna for a few years anyway; considering that my parents are now 85 and 89, and not enjoying the best of health, it probably won't be much longer than that anyway.
I only hope that my mum will outlive my father -- he may not be a problem anymore, but I really don't fancy taking care of him.

Rambo and Lucy say hi! :-)

Hee, I hope you get enough work to keep you interested but not so you have to work hard
