Any holiday at my paternal grandparents house. There was no less than 45+ people at every function bc they invited all the neighbours, any of their friends that had no family etc etc. Just in the family alone there was 32 of us. There’s nothing more entertaining than a house full of Irish family and friends singing, dancing eating and having a reason to raise a glass to those who were not with us anymore. 🤗

sounds like a great celebration,

back in those days, i remember everyone being inviting and inclusive and hospitable,
even if someone was difficult, they were still included into the meal
any excuse.. for a celebration ))

boring small towns where i grew up were like that

My grandparents had an open door policy. They were the first family on their block who had a phone, so anyone could use it if they needed to make a call. They also were the first family to have a car and if someone needed a ride they could count on my grandfather or one of my Uncles who ever was available. My dad was the oldest of nine so someone was always around to help. And that’s what my dad instilled in me growing up.
