Whoever said Monday is the first day of the week didn't say it for everyone; here, the first day of the week is Sunday. Go figure. In any event, I imagine people needed some way to keep things straight. Whatever worked is what was used. But like everything else to do with space and time, what we use isn't necessarily what is. Like having to add a leap day every four years.

it seems to vary between cultures and historical timelines, when the julian calendar became gregorian, and the leap year came into effect and we lost 10 days, then the mayan calendar ended, and the phoenician reset occurs every 138 years marked by major historic events
