I love the beautiful art in Orthodox churches, especially the Virgin Mary icons.

some of it can be quite glorious as well as inspiring
in a way the images are simplified or naive
but powerful icons to say the least

It's interesting to see the difference in the way they cross themselves ( well, it looks different to me) versus Catholics. Taking Russian history for two semesters, we learned about the role the Orthodox church played in their society over the many years.

did you back to 13c byzantium where the greek orthodoxy the eastern christian church divided from the roman catholic christian church in constantinople
there has been this rift throughout history
