This weekend I learned that the only kind of ice cream I can have with these diet restrictions is vanilla. Seriously, I spent 30 minutes looking for any other flavor that did not have chocolate or citric acid in it ( Read more... )

Oh my. Hang in there. The first week is the hardest. Week two is close behind. Then you'll get the groove of things.

i am doubting it. last night i almost bust into tears after spending 40 minutes reading the label of every sauce/marinade/jam/dressing in Haggen.

After 40 minutes the only option open to me was to not eat with anyone. to be perfectly honest i am starting to dread camping this weekend because of the food shopping.

hmm... can I help? I'm an expert label reader. I totally understand how frustrating it is. I've been doing the crazy no shellfish and now no-gluten thing for long enough to have a few hair-pulling melt-downs.

Can you send me a list of things your can/ can't eat? I'll make sure I have a couple things for you.

i will cover it

really what it comes down to is i cannot have a single commercially (and most home) produced sauce/dressing/marinade/jam/jelly.

no citrus also means no citric acid, the most common thickener and preservative out there.

i am on day 9 and still not feeling 100%. i think i might need to try and find an insurance covered nutritionist and see if there is another way to approach this. perhaps there is something out there that can bolster my system against irritation. this situation is not about allergies, it is about constant irritation causing constant discomfort.
