David was sitting alone on a desk in his bedroom, a cup of coffee on his left hand and a piece of paper on the other. A letter had come earlier that morning, containing a piece of paper, a paper of which had become a turning point of his life. David took a sip on his coffee, feeling somehow bitter, not from the coffee but from his heart. Taking a glance on the paper for one last time, his head sunk further. His mind knew that there was nothing he could do about his condition.

'I love you, Dave.'

Pierre's words played over and over again in David's head.

Pierre had come revealing his state of mind to him, out of the blue. It felt so right, it felt so natural, and spontaneous. The dream had finally turned into reality. But it was yesterday. Right now, yesterday seemed like a complete haze. Life had turned its back on him in a drastic way.

Taking a deep breath, David decided to get up and walked for the phone, looking for some explanation. A minute later, he was caught up in a serious conversation with his doctor. Hoping for some good news but couldn't find any. The possibilities are slim for him.

'I'm sorry… I wish there's something else I could do…' The doctor said, sounding apologetic.

"Well, I…" David paused, unable to continue his sentence. For a moment, there were only quiet sniffles heard over the phone.

"Well, I guess I just have to accept it…" David continued, weakly, "I'll call you later then… bye."

Somehow he felt that it was the end of the world for him as he ended the call.

David closed his eyes, hoping that when he opened his eyes, everything would be all right, that this whole thing was just a nightmare. But he knew that it wasn't, so he kept his eyes closed for as long as he remembered. His heart pounded like it was going out of the ribcage as a headache started hammering his head. A sudden nausea had rushed out of his throat, forcing him to move toward the kitchen's sink to throw up.

A knock on the front door broke the silence in David's room. Trying his hardest to move his shaky feet toward the door, David opened the door and found Pierre standing in front of his apartment, smiling so warmly with a bouquet of red roses in his hand.

"Hi, love," Pierre greeted lovingly. A smile turned into a frown when he saw David's pale face, "What's wrong?"

All David could do was just giving a faint smile before his world turned black as his body trembled against Pierre's.

---

Pierre frustrated himself for being unable to reach David. He called thousands of times to David's number and dozens of times knocking on David's door, but the results were zero. David was nowhere to be found.

It had been three days since the last time he spent some times with David. It was the day when David blacked out. Back then, Pierre was worried like hell. Although David was collapsed for only about fifteen minutes, but he could tell that something was wrong with David.

'I'm fine… I just worn out because of the work,' was David's excuse that day. Pierre believed him right then, and he felt really stupid because of it right now. He was sure that David's missing had got something to do with David's health condition.

He thought that everything would work out just fine after he told Monique the truth. And of course Monique was upset about that, but he didn't care, because all he was thinking about that he and David would be together. But obviously, life was not as simple as that. If Pierre only knew that David would be missing like this, he would stay by David's side twenty-four seven.

"Shit!" Pierre shouted, punching his fist onto David's front door. His anger had risen up to his fontanel. He was mad at David for missing, and at himself for being insensitive about David's awkward behavior.

Walking down the corridor, heading away from David's apartment, Pierre decided to go home. He entered his car and slammed the door harshly. He pulled out a pack of cigarettes out of his pocket, picking one of the cigarettes out and then burning it. He had stopped smoking some times ago, but with David sudden vanished, he couldn't think of any other way to ease his anxious mind.

Pierre drove his car recklessly, blasting the music on the stereo of his car out loud until everyone on the street could hear it. He couldn't care any less about them. All he cared right now was David and David only. His thought flew to their first kiss, a rough-yet-romantic kiss. How they spent the time afterward just kissing and making out in David's room. How the hot, steamy intercourse they did that day.

Two hours and three packs of cigarettes later, Pierre found himself laying on his couch. A gentle knock heard from the front door of his apartment. Somehow, Pierre hoped that David was the one who knocked on it. To his surprised, it was David.

"Dave?" Slanting his eyes, Pierre couldn't believe the sight in front of him.

"Hi, Pierre," greeted David, smiling weakly yet still enchanting like nothing had happened.

"Oh my god, it is you, where have you been? I missed you so much!" Pierre ranted, pulling David into a tight embrace, kissing the side of his neck.

"Pierre…" David confronted, somehow pushing Pierre away lightly.

Pierre's face couldn't hide to express disappointment, but then he realized that they were still in the corridor, and Pierre thought that David was ashamed to do affectionate action in public.

"Come on in!" Pierre invited, moving aside from his door to let David entered the apartment.

"Actually, I won't be long, Pie…" David declined Pierre's invitation, ducking his head for awhile before facing Pierre's confused look.

"What's wrong?" Pierre asked, anxiety started to creep on his mind.

"I…" David paused for awhile, gathering some courage to continue his words.

Pierre waited in agony, his instinct told him that what David would say next wouldn't be a good one.

"I can't do this, Pierre… yesterday, I met Monique, and I saw how upset she was and I… I can't leave Kelly either…" David continued, lying about his relationship with Kelly.

"But Dave…" Pierre spoke up.

"No, Pierre… I don't want another drama in my life, I just want it to be simple. I hope you could understand what I mean," David cut Pierre's sentence straight away, afraid that Pierre would say something that could change his decision.

A moment of silence fell between the two of them. Both lost in their own thoughts. It was awhile before Pierre finally said something.

"I love you… doesn't it mean anything to you?" Pierre asked in desperation, tears started to well up on his eyes.

"If you really love me, then you would understand it, Pierre…" David answered back in a low tone just enough for Pierre to hear.

Pierre stared at David in disbelief, pain showed in his brown eyes. His heart shattered into a million pieces that he was almost sure he wouldn't be able to mend it back again.

"I gotta go, Pierre…" David murmured. Taking a step forward, he kissed Pierre on the cheek softly, mumbling goodbye before walking out of the building, leaving Pierre alone with his broken-heart.

A/n: umm... I know I'm evil for twisting the story like that, but I do have plans with it, so please make some comments and tell me what you think :)
