Sounds about right. How is your non-smoking life these days?

It's good. There's actually been a resurgence of smoking around me lately, which is unfortunate although I no longer find it quite so foul. After doing the triathlon, I am absolutely certain that interval training is much more effective than distance training. Which is great. Because I HATE distance training. Short bursts of intensity is the way to win, if I were interested in winning. Apply that to life and it makes me wish I could still smoke to intensify my productivity elsewhere. I also miss all those brief interactions I used to have on smoke breaks, and the spontaneous solidarity. There's an argument that government bodies shouldn't discourage smoking because it increases worker productivity while shortening smokers' lifespans. As people are living longer than the system can handle, allowing a certain number to succumb to lung cancer and heart disease might not be such a bad thing. How do you feel about this?

Well, people have to die sooner or later. I'm always a bit ambivalent about giving money to support cancer research, as opposed to mitigating poverty or feeding the hungry, or what have you. Cancer is awful, but it's natural. If everyone survives into their 90s, we've got big problems. Of course, I want myself and everyone I know to live into their 90s, so. And I do give to cancer research. I'm just, you know, ambivalent about it ( ... )
