[Rorona didn't think much of her letter, or the reply, until she opened a few of the boxes. Upon finding what looked to be pieces of the homunculus 'Hom' that assisted Rorona back at the workshop back home, she realized that maybe it had been a bad idea to ask to see Homhom again. Rorona definitely wasn't opening anymore of the boxes, that's for ( Read more... )

... Rorona, it's alright. I'm sure Homhom's safe.

[There was... really not much Flay can do, and that fact was more frustrating than almost any other. He could easily have just let her sort through this by herself, but they were stuck in this together, and he was supposed to be her 'father,' according to the photographs and whatnot. Placing a hand on her shoulder, he set the boxes aside with the other.]

It's probably some stupid prank, set up by someone who hates the season. [That didn't explain how they even knew what Hom looked like, but...] I'll look into it, okay? When I find out what's happened, I'll personally make it right. Whoever decided to do this... there's no doubt in my mind that they're an enemy of justice, at the very least, and they must be punished for their transgressions.

[At least he sounded like he knew what he was doing... Flay had a knack for faking certainty, or so he thought.]

Huh. Sounds interesting - too bad I never got a chance to see somethin' like that.

[Lucky for her, he wouldn't have any clue to ask about it. Still, Cabbage Girl?]

[IT'S ALL ESTY'S FAULT. Both for the nickname and for singing up Rorona for both competitions.

Well, she roped Sterk into the fighting competition, too. So Rorona ended up facing Sterk in the last round.]

Maybe you will one day. It's really fun, and it only happens once a year.

[S-such craziness. Flay might need to meet this Esty person.]

I can hope. Sounds like you do really well in it, too.

A-ah! Um... well, I won the tournament, so I guess so. I didn't really sign up for it, though.

Didn't sign up for it? How did you end up entering, then?

Esty volunteered me for it...

... I see. Is Esty a friend of yours, then, or a pest?

Esty runs the front desk at the palace! She handles the requests the town sends in, and, um... when Sterk got hurt awhile back, she did evaluations for him, too.

... Oh, I see. That sounds... kind of boring. Evaluations? Was she acting as a teacher or something, at that point?

The palace gave me assignments, and the evaluations graded how well I did! If I failed any, I would have lost the workshop.

Oh! Well, that's a little different. Alchemy on Al-Revis is kind of... protected, though. You can only do it after you've gone to the school, legally. And then, in school, if you can't get enough people in your workshop, Vice Principal would take away your class workshop...

She really was kind of mean, but I guess I did give her a good bit of grief...
