an american sam tyler (life on mars)
i'm pretty sure any life on mars fan who saw david E. kelly's leaked U.S. pilot knows what a bunch of horrible crap it was. and, now, i know that new producers took over, and the whole thing's been recast and rewritten and reshot, and i think harvey keitel and gretchen mol are going to be great improvements to be sure (even though harvey keitel is so old and so little, he kind of doesn't work); HOWEVER, the weakest link in the cast still remains! JASON O'MARA, YOU ARE NO SAM TYLER.
SO. WHO WOULD I HAVE CAST AS THE AMERICAN SAM TYLER?
well, it would have to be someone with incredible charm and charisma, 'cause, let's be honest, sam tyler is kind of a dick a lot of the time, but we still have to care about him and sympathize with him and want to watch his story every week (this is what jason o'mara is lacking most of all). he's gotta be smart and cold and stubborn, but also kind of like a boy in a lot of ways. he's gotta be vulnerable, and he's gotta have a great smile for those moments when he actually does smile, and he's gotta be able to work some pretty ugly clothes...

so what if he was negative-five years old in 1973; he's got charm coming out of his ears!
too bad he was already signed to a different crappy show.
and, hey, look, it's sam tyler AND alex drake!
(or at least a completely charmless actress wearing alex drake's clothing)
