Films of 2008

Dec 20, 2008 15:07

My cinema loves me, I'm a frequent resident there. It's the easiest way to kill boredom in the late afternoon/early evening (those few hours inbetween finishing college and going out for dinner). Caps used in this picspam were from movie trailers. I'm not too sure on how much everyone's watched, so no spoilers (until you haven't even watched the trailers). All caps were taken and edited by me. In no specific order, these would be my favourites this year. Any of course, rather image heavy.

iron man.
Cast: Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeff Bridges, Terrence Howard

This seems to be the only action/superhero film I actually enjoyed this year. That's depressing.

forgetting sarah marshall.
Cast: Jason Segel, Kristen Bell, Mila Kunis, Russell Brand

juno.
Cast: Ellen Page, Michael Cera, Jennifer Garner, Jason Bateman

This goes under 2008 for me because it only got released in the UK on Dec 25, and I don't go cinema during Christmas so I only got to watch it the next year.

gone baby gone.
Cast: Casey Affleck, Michelle Monaghan, Morgan Freeman

Suprisingly, Ben Affleck is quite a good director too. Again, this is considered a 2008 release to me because it only got released in the UK beginning of June (we are seriously behind on everything) due to disapperance of Madeleine McCann.

mamma mia.
Cast: Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth

man on wire.
Cast: Documentary of Philippe Petit

This is seriously one of them most amazing things I've seen in cinema. Not only is a world record, but it's a piece of history as well because the Twin Towers are no longer here.

wanted.
Cast: Morgan Freeman, James McAvoy, Angelina Jolie

I watched this for McAvoy. I liked the bullet-flying-through-air-at-strange-angles thing. But I don't think it was great enough to grant two sequels already. Trilogies have only ever succeeded three times, "Star Wars", "Lord of the Rings" and "Bourne".

the dark knight.
Cast: Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Michael Caine, Aaron Eckhart, Maggie Gyllenhaal

You've heard it enough, so not going to repeat. If you haven't watched it already, get the DVD. Now.

twilight.
Cast: Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Cam Gigandet, Peter Facinelli

I would suggest to read the book first though.

wall-e.
Cast: Animation

Best animation since "The Incredibles".

Some films I didn't enjoy as much: Indiana Jones IV; Jumper (horrible, horrible); Speed Racer (horrible, horrible, horrible, if I could I would demand a refund); Body of Lies; Righteous Kill; Cloverfield (who the hell came up with the design for that thing?); Star Wars Clone Wars, X-Files I Believe and Mummy 3 (sequels are so meh, it also destroys my views of the originals when not done properly. Although Star Wars Clones was an animation, I'm sure if Master Yoda, Natalie, Ewan and Hayden were on screen I would at least have had some incentive to stay awake)

Now that 2008 is over, what to look forward to next year/end of this year: Push (February); The Spirit (Dec/Jan); The Reader (Dec/Jan); Watchmen (March); Star Trek (April)
