My BFF Bia has bought me a ticket to London. I arrive on 26 Jan 2023 and presumably return 25 April. I say presumably because there is the option to extend - or anticipate - the return, if needed

I've been enjoying reading our old comments back in the day! Conversations about Zizek, London, etc. I couldn't find when exactly we met but I think it was around 2006. :-)
I totally agree with you about keeping an LJ. I'm really glad I used to write such detailed entries too and try to do the same whenever I can (although my time and energy levels are much depleted now!).
In terms of working remotely, at my old company we had a guy who moved to Germany and wanted to continue working for us. It was possible to do his job remotely so no problem. The only complication was payroll. He has to be taxed by the German authorities, which makes it a little bit complicated and ever so slightly more expensive for the company in the UK... But, tbh, once it's all set up, it pretty much works automatically so shouldn't be much extra effort for any half-competent accounts dept.
BTW, if you're interested in staying in Sheffield at any point we would be happy to have you stay either as a guest with us or as a cat-sitter while we take a much-needed holiday, whatever works! :) That said, I appreciate it's not London... but if you do need/want to stay somewhere else, the offer's there!
Thank you so much Rattler. Would be a huge pleasure to visit you guys - I've never been to Sheffield! Depending on my work situation, I'll try to figure something out. Maybe I can work remotely from there for a few days? And very happy to cat sit if you guys travel. :-)
I've heard from someone else about the tax situation, but with them (living in Madrid), they had to agree to get taxed twice (in the UK and in Spain). It might be that the guy in Germany had his pay sent to a German bank account? I still have my UK one - am hoping I can just get paid there. I also have my dad's address in Northampton - maybe can work something out that that's my address? (for the purposes of a residence for part of the year I spend in the UK.)

Sounds about right. I had a breakup in late 2005 that turned me into a The Smiths fanatic, so I looked for other fans!

Excellent stuff! I'm pretty close to Victoria Park and your old haunts in Mile End if you fancy meeting up when you're in town
