So I am thinking through ice cream flavors that I might make this weekend for a few friends (and our guest, Quiggles14). So naturally, I went to Raekwon and Meth doing "Ice Cream". I don't think I remember the video including so many dancing women, but it makes sense. "Classic" song. Oh the spirit of hip hop was strong then, not like now with the ( Read more... )

He OPENS with a reference to Uniblab! And I forgot to mention how whenever his name would come up, a person has to discuss if he is the ugliest rapper ever. He so ugly, when he was born, the doctor slapped his momma, and all that.

But that song - I "acquired" it recently and can't stop listening to it. Great for gym workouts, great for swagger down the street, decent for road trip music (a little slow/ deliberate).

The quality of hip-hop can be pegged directly to the presence of hockey jerseys in the video.

(And to my great shame, before I clicked the link, I assumed you meant Luke Skywalker's "I Wanna Rock" when you said "Doo-Doo Brown." Not my finest moment.)

No shame - if I posted DooDoo Brown I'd have to get into the Luke thing, b/c that's where I first heard it too. I think I had heard that original but that got like NO distribution...

By the way I was referring to an earlier post of yours when I started speaking of the "spirit" of hip hop.

If Luke is in the mix, then the fairly similar "Tootsee Roll" would fit your theme today. But god, it's a terrible song.

If there is a "spirit" of hip shop, Kanye believes he is it.

Er, "hip hop", not "hip shop". Though Kanye probably thinks he's both.

"One love to my butter pecan ricans for calling me 'Papi'" - I've always loved that.

Craig Mack is a classic's classic, used to bust it out all the time back when I still spun records.

This is my favorite Video Friday, yet! :)

Ice Cream is filled with classic lines... and the end of the first verse from "don't mean no harm/ turn around again" is just nasty good.
