since no one else will on my flist... American Idol

Apr 29, 2009 08:37

A few notes, since I liked the theme and sat through the Rat Pack show. I know most of you have better and smarter things to do than watch American Idol, but it was on as the Mets' relief pitchers disintegrated ( Read more... )

I still don't know why Matt is still there.

I also don't understand why my boss, grandmother and mother all love Adam so much; I pretty much agree on your assessment.

I'm also gunning for Allison, but I think you're right.

(woot, someone who shares in my secret AI shame!)

The funny thing about Adam is that he looks like a ringer , a guy who could and should have a contract on his own but wants to get his name out there via the most-watched show in the US (if it is still that).

You probably like the show more than I do... I repeatedly say "why is this happening to me?" when it's on in our house. Did you see my post last week with the video of Kristy Lee Cook murdering "Eight Days a Week?" (or Amanda Overmeyer torturing a Kansas song?)

Saving grace this year: the talent is way better. Lil Rounds would send most of last season's singers home crying.

Totally agreed--I feel like it's a publicity stunt.

I *used* to like the show a lot more--I enjoyed last season much more than this one, if mostly because there were so many bad people (so many lulz were had over that horrid, horrid 8 Days a Week, oh God, the pink stars are still burned into my mind). I just feel like I can't get as into it this year.

I do agree--I kind of liked Lil. I know she didn't have as much stage presence as some of the others, but I liked her voice.

the judges have his ****s in their *****s

this is hilarious.. I don't even know what it means! I can guess, but whatever-- much funnier w/ the asterisks. Like it could just be his ____ in their _____, mad libs style.

I haven't watched much of this but Adam Lambert is the most hilarious campy musical star. I did musical theater a bunch as a kid (no really) and I recognize the type so much. There are a million dudes just like him playing in the chorus in broadway shows (which is what he did before)-- he's smart to try to break out and I am sure he and his pancake makeup will have a bit of a career. Is he out? It's amazing to me that middle America will lap up a dude in full makeup and eyeliner but not let khaki-wearing gay couples get married.

I used an actual phrase last night and ms. philia was not impressed. So much better with the asterisks. It was like watching someone look at the art of someone they're in love with but have been dating for, say, 6 months - no objectivity! (Actually, I never had that problem, and I say to this day - never date someone who makes crappy art. I digress.)

I have no idea if he's out or not; I never really thought about his sexuality. He just seems like a hammy post-musical guy... makeup and eyeliner is different than actual man-on-man contact to most people! Heck, Fall Out Boy and their derivatives all rock eyeliner and no one seems to comment. And I remember picking up the first Poison album and thinking, why doesn't anyone comment that they look like girls? Rikki Rocket's photo was very pretty on that cover.

ha, THIS! I live with my grandmother right now, and she subscribes to a lot of the gossip rags, like InTouch and the Enquirer. Anyway, there was this picture of Adam at some sort of event--not sure what it was but he was in full on blue man group type make up on his face and chest with glitter, a tiara of purply glittering skulls in his hair, kissing some other equally outlandishly dressed guy on the cheek. The blurb just said it was at some party in Vegas celebrating "alternative culture." I don't know if he's out or not, but I agree with you on your last sentence.

i resent the implication that watching american idol was not the best or smartest thing i could have done last night.

i wasn't into last night, because usually my highlight every week is seeing kris allen turn whatever song he's singing into a sweet alterna-guy with guitar song (see: remember the time, she works hard for the money). of the people this season, i think adam, kris, and possibly allison will have careers. everyone else has been pretty lacking in "star power," and i say that with a HUGE crush on matt g.
