My best guess for skipping Loki's sons with Sigyn is that they chartmaker had set up the file, and simply forgot to add the text, if only because it is so vasty enormous.
lol @ Gullveig being the mother of Angrboda. That is nowhere in the mythology. N-o-w-h-e-re. Gullveig herself is literally nowhere else, so all we can do is speculate! The most likely thing is that Gullveig is Freyja, but...I have my theories on that too.
And people think that Aurboda is the same as Angrboda too, and that's nowhere--they just have the -boða in common in their names. But looking more closely at it--it looks like maybe they're saying that all the women in that group are the same person? It would make sense, because I wrote a whole paper for my Norseclass about how Angrboda = like every HBIC witch/seeress in the mythology and wrote my NaNo last year all about her and am writing my Master's thesis on her if I get into grad school, so.
Also, while we're on the subject, remember that book I linked you to that one time that you were skeptical of? Another friend of mine on here read it and said that while the children feature prominently, Angrboda herself did not have a speaking part (and, from what I gathered, was largely
( ... )
- And in the realm of non-Angrboda things--I'm pretty sure the Norns didn't come from Ymir? Or at least it doesn't, like, explicitly say in the Eddas that they came from Ymir, but I've heard theories about them being the three giantesses who came into Asgard and ended the golden age (in "The Prophecy of the Seeress" I think), so maybe that's where this person is getting that part from?
- Why the absolute fuck they would leave out Sigyn's and Loki's sons is beyond me. Glut, I only know because you told me about her--I don't remember reading about her? Ugh, I gotta go over the Eddas again.
- - WAIT WAIT WAIT, I FOUND THE SONS. WHY ARE THEY MIMIR? DOES NOT COMPUTE
- ...also, Frigg and Jörd are not the same person. Jörd is a giantess!
- Magni and Modi aren't both Jarnsaxa's sons!
- Ivaldi was a dwarf!
- Why is Thjazi so many people?!
At first I was like "omg this is great" but I am side-eyeing so hard right now. I mean--whoever made this should be commended, but I'm kind of not buying some of it?
For the Eddas? In my class we used Carolyne Larrington's translation of the Poetic Edda (which is pretty new), and I still have to read Lee Hollander's version. I just got this REALLY new version by Andy Orchard, but it bothers me that he translates like all the names literally so it's not my favorite. And then for the Prose Edda we used Anthony Faulkes' translation, because it includes all three books, but if you want a shorter version that is a little more readable (if only because it's divided up into sections) there's one by Jesse Byock.
tl;dr I guess I have a lot of opinions (and all of the abovementioned books, what is my life) and I hope this helped!

I wore it today, actually, because I had to present a paper on Loki. My class was amused. :D

I missed ALL the non judeo-christian mythology when I was a kid due to my primary caretaker being mad as a bag of cats.
Who is your favorite translator still in print?
