I found it typical that on the day after I posted a heap of self-justification for not doing anything (however accurate it is), I end up leaving my van lights on while at work.  The flat battery cost me 3 hours of useful time ( Read more... )

Congrats on the degree!

As to the exercise, have you considered something crafty? It'll be lower impact than most "exercise" but depending on what you pick gets you up and moving around and doing some light lifting and exercise.

To be honest, if I'm going to do exercise I really do need something that gets my heart pumping. Walking is a very good start since it's both low impact and doesn't require much effort beyond the exercise itself. There's also a yoga class in the church around the corner that runs in the evening. While I have doubts towards the mascuilinity of such an activity (I fear it is crowded with middle-aged ladies), the convenience might be worth it.

The big problem with ANY exercise, whether its inside or outside, is motivation. I miss the motivation of sunny days basically!

I was thinking slightly heavier crafty things like woodworking or making chainmail. Ex-boyfriend used to do chainmail and wind his own coils for rings. Crap that was HARD. That was some serious work. And you have stuff at the end, so have a goal of "finish X" rather than more nebulous "get some exercise."

The yoga is probably a good option since there's a fair amount of focus on breathing. I know it's one the things they recommend for fatigue too. Just make sure instructor knows you have some health concerns so they can have you sit out for stuff that's a bad idea for any reasons. If you want to try out some stuff at home The Yoga Minibook for Energy and Strength might be a good buy. The back chapter is all stuff that can be done seated so is low impact stuff meant to combat fatigue. So even if you feel like crap, there's some stuff you can do that's meant specifically to boost energy. It does also include with each of the exercises any relevant warnings like "don't do this is you have a herniated disc" or "do not do if you ( ... )
