aww...Merlin. wow. and arthur's got a long way to go, poor guy. this is exactly what college parties are like as a freshman--confusing, thrilling, and full of bad-tasting booze. i'm really enjoying this!

Very interesting. I do have a question,out of curiosity, you write that Arthur is 22 but still at Cambridge - is he a graduate student? Or assuming one starts at Cambridge at 18 - how many years to graduate? I ask because, typically (not always)here in the US, students graduate at 21yr. Thank you.

No, he's an undergraduate. Most courses are three years (History certainly is) but some undergrad courses - Engineering, MML, Oriental Studies and some NatSci are four years. In my mind Arthur took a gap year and his birthday is in September, making him 22 in the first term of his final year. I was 22 when I graduated from Cambridge, but equally some people came up early (aged 17) and were only 20 when they did so.

I liked that Tom thought Arthur was homophobic. At least Merlin is less likely to go after Arthur after this.
