The 12th Annual 'A Picture is Worth a 1000 Words' Challenge: The Great Race
So, It's Like This...
The challenge goes as follows: each participant is assigned a picture that will serve as the inspiration for a story (how you define "inspiration" is up to you). The catch is that each story must be exactly one thousand words in length, no more, no less - and trust me, it's not as easy as it sounds!
Everyone gets one picture to start. It's called a challenge for a reason, so you may need to get creative. Just remember: the picture itself need only serve as inspiration, not necessarily be a literal part of the story.
Any fandom, pairing, rating or genre (including real person and original fic) is welcome. Stories won't be due until February 28, 2013, which means two full months to write! Woot! :D
The Twist
Every year I add a theme to the challenge. This year, the theme is The Great Race, and each photo I assign will all include at least one animal from the signs of the Chinese zodiac! And again, this need only serve as inspiration. Stories do not need to be explicitly about the photograph, and the animal does not need to appear in the story itself. You can incorporate a character who shares traits with that animal, or make the animal someone's pet, whatever... be creative!
