Those both sound like quite the interesting classes.

[..wait. No. Dammit. Word problems. Those were always a bit tricky for him. But he could do this.]

Excuse me a moment. I need to go find some paper. [In order to scribble things down on and track his thoughts.]

[Okay. Diagramming this out. Circles and letters and okay. He can do this. It seems the most logical answer is six. But... that would be too orderly. Potentially one of the women could see the other directly across the table then. But if one takes a person away, then there's less chance of that happening and there's still a person between each woman so they're not sitting together...

...but...

it did say minimum so that was the key. Five would fulfill the requirements as being minimum because if he tried to make it four, then it wouldn't work either. There was the same problem as if there was six and three was far too few.]

...I'm going to go with five.

A great answer, Matthew! Five people is correct. How long did it take you to catch that there is an empty seat across the table from each of the guests in attendance?

Admittedly, it took me a little longer than I would have liked. My first thought was to put someone across from everyone, instead.

A capital response for a tricky problem. Your puzzle-solving abilities are truly in top form.

I'll greatly look forward to meeting you in class, Matthew. Do rest up for your last month of vacation.

[There was finally a smile at that.] Thank you, Professor.

I've never attended classes in a classroom setting before so this is going to be quite a thrill.

A positive attitude and critical thinking is the key to great success. Try your best not to lose sight of that.

Farewell for now! We will chat again before long. Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns over the next month... or if you have discovered a new puzzle to solve.

I think... I'll have plenty of that.

It was a pleasure to speak with you, Professor. Do take care.

[In the meantime, he'll go work on trying to convince someone else to sign up.]
