Last month I backed up all my old LiveJournal entries, and skim-read them while I sorted out the formatting. It's a bit of a mess, this journal, isn't it? Reading it all in one go left me wondering what the point of it was. My main reason for starting it was that I didn't want to lose touch with my on-line friends, as we all drifted away from ( Read more... )

I find it all interesting, but it's your journal - it has to be about what you're willing to share (or not, if you choose to utilise the private post option)...

I think I do learn more about what you've been up to here than elsewhere, just not very often, if that makes sense...

Ha. I was so not wanting a "do what you want" answer, which I can see now was silly of me since it's probably the answer I'd give if I'd been asked by someone else. :D

I personally would be interested in reading each and every one of those things, but at the end of the day it's your LJ and if you don't feel comfortable writing about all of that, or just plain don't want to, then it's your decision and I doubt anyone would disrespect that. So...whatever you actually want to do is what I want you to do. There's a point to keeping the journal if you actually want to use it. And how you use it depends entirely on what you want to say.

I'm sorry to hear the whiplash is still hurting :-(

Incidentally, how did you back up your journal?

It isn't a question of comfort so much as it's a question of point (as in, "what's the...?"). Also, I have no idea what I want to say or even if I want to say anything at all. That's the main problem.

It's like all my friends have ice-cream vans, and they're driving away from me, and I don't want to lose them, so I get myself an ice-cream van too so that I can keep up. And suddenly I have all this ice-cream-making equipment that I feel I ought to be using when really all I wanted was a car.

Or maybe it's not like that at all.

I like your posts. I like reading about the allotment and your thoughts on your writing and what you talked about with so-and-so where-and-when. I like the pictures of your craft projects and the enthusiasm for them. I like the book posts, because it's interesting to see what other people read, and even more interesting to see what *you* read.

I would be sad if you stopped posting, since yours is one of the few journals I actually go back to read when I've been gone extended periods.

Now that's what I call a clear answer!

yours is one of the few journals I actually go back to read when I've been gone extended periods.

Likewise, dearie, although it's less impressive in my case since I only have about six journals to catch up on. But I'd do it even if I had hundreds on my f-list, because I love you THAT MUCH.

I come here to catch up on all things Madeline. I suppose I could make my own Livejournal, and you could check up on me for a change, but I am far too lazy to keep a log running long, and it would be VERY boring. (The cat spit up another hairball. Just watched a new anime series. The kids at the library are annoying.) You, on the other hand, are doing great. :p

If you're really concerned about building up a large following, you probably need to rant and rave about idiot celebrities more. ^_^

Or build up a specialized audience for something you are a particular expert at. I dunno, maybe you could offer piano-playing tips, and build up a following of eager piano students. Or record a weekly classical public-domain piano MP3 for download.

But I enjoy your journal very much just as it is...

Inkwolf, I would love to read your journal. I did actually regularly pop over to the Apple site (or wherever it was) when you were keeping a journal of sorts over there. Cats are always interesting. The little bits of anime I've seen struck me as bizarre, so that'd be interesting to read about too. Annoying kids are funny. Libraries are ace! It'd all be interesting to read. It's the effort of it that's off-putting, isn't it?

I'm not concerned at all about building up a large following. That's one of the problems. I don't want to maintain a public journal persona. I don't want to have hundreds of people that I don't know at all learning more about my daily life than my RL friends and family. And if I don't want to do that, why am I bothering with a journal? I suppose it's because I don't want to lose touch with people.

Hmmm.

Maybe I'm just looking for ways to get out of writing anything. :D
