Unless you're like my dad and have knee problems. For him, going down stairs hurts him more than going up.

I've seen that happen before.

Some buildings have doors that will only let you out of the stairwell at either the ground floor or a fire exit. (And won't let you into the stairwell at the ground floor unless you have a key...)

They aren't one-way stairways. All you have to do here for EITHER stairs or elevator is scan your badge but that is the same regardless if you take the stairs or elevator.

I remember I was in a hotel and I overheard a man teaching his young son (about 6) about the elevator. He said "You only use it if you are going up 15 floors or more or if you have a whole bunch of bags to move."

This place only had three floors, so I'm guessing that guy and his family used the elevator twice at the most. His kid is probably about 21 now, I'll bet he's not fat.

Annoyingly, it's common practice to make the stairway doors one-way, so you can't
get out except on the first floor. I used to take the stairs all the time (5th floor
office) when I worked in the Reston office. I should give it a try here, but I'm guessing
I can take the stairs down, but not up.
