And This Is Where I Start to Panic

Wednesdays, I found out, are the most awesome day of work. They don't get a general merchandise truck in on that day, so there's not much to do. There was only one other guy on my shift that day even, and he showed me what to do on those days.

We sorted out candy and stuff onto pallets (took like thirty minutes) and then we straightened and filled ( Read more... )

I wouldn't be worried about the going home early thing at this moment. You're new and they'll always send the new people home first if it's slow or they don't need an extra body. That's how it is at my work. They're probably trying to keep a labor percentage. Once you've been there longer and get to know everything they'll keep you around. Your job actually sounds pretty nice... you don't have to interact with customers all that much. *envy*

My job in a nutshell.

Me: Hi, how are you? ....That's great what can I get for you? .......... Would you like onions on that? ...... Would you like fries? ........What would you like to drink,.....? Is that to eat in the car...? That'll be 'blah de blah' at the first drive thru window, thankyou...

Repeat a million times. :D

Well, I interact with them a little here and there! Usually if I'm pulling something out onto the floor and one spots me. I gets to be the tour guide.

Person: Hi, could you tell me where (insert item here) is?
Me: Yes m'am/sir. If you'd just follow me, it's right this way.
Person: (when we're there) Oh! Thank you.
Me: No problem.

Some customers chat longer. Usually about the remodel. I don't mind talking to them, because so far they've all been nice to me. Plus, it gives me something other than hauling 3000 pounds of merchandise somewhere. >.<

But yeah. It is pretty cool. ^_^

There's something about food that makes people really bitchy or a complete jerk sometimes... and of course people talking down to you cause they think you're an idiot cause you're working in fast food. Glad your job is good though!

Walmart is still evil though.

I wouldn't worry about sending people home early... I worked as a supervisor for a fast food company, and we ALWAYS send new people home if it wasn't busy. It all has to do with seniority. See, people who've been there longer are more deserving of the extra hours, which equal money. It's a way to make sure you'll stay with them a long time.

Stay there long enough and you'll stay later, but then again, understand that instead of dreading you're doing a bad job, make sure you prolong your work a little too, or else you might have a job, but just no real hours...

Well, I think I'm prolonging quite enough already, actually. >.>

I'm like, the slowest person there, I swear. >.

I think you're fine! No stressie! I've worked places where they send people home if there's no real work do to / overstaffed for the time being.

As long as you are getting your work done, I don't think it means anything if they offer to let you go home early. I send techs home early if it is slow. By cutting hours I can ask them to stay if it is crazy busy and not go over budget.
