It's time to celebrate Hannukah.

I lit the candles right at sundown. Well I thought it was sundown. It was clouded over so it was a good guess. Dark anyways.

Niiiiiiice

I cant wait to see the progression of added candles.

Question tho...I know you add candles dayly right? What does the midle one represent? or is it just to lite the others

Well, all the candles represent the light from the oil lamps in the temple in Jerusalem in Ancient Israel.

Let me look this up. Hold on.

Okies. I had a feeling it was just this.

a separate candle used to serve the others...

The center candle is called the shamash or sometimes shammosh. And is just basically the worker candle used to light the others. You aren't supposed to use matches to light the hanukkah candles.

So that is what my late night research could find out. Judaism is full of quirky ritual. So this is one.

do you use fresh candles each time to maintain an even height or the same ones? How long do you burn them for?

Good question. The tradition is to light them and let them burn until they burn out...or until the whole candle is gone. So each day you use a fresh set of candles.

They sell Hanukkah candles in boxes with the right number for all eight nights.

Thanks for your question!
