Jake snorted. “That’s the biggest piece of bull I’ve ever heard! Am I supposed to reassure you and say ‘oh no, you’ve fully redeemed yourself’? Well, I’m not going to play that game! It’s just being self centered to think this has anything to do with you. This is a medical complication. Nothing else!”

My heart was breaking for poor Beck and Heather. Beck's thought of "it's all my fault" is so completely normal and human, and Jake's butt-kicking was just right.
