Beck didn’t have to wait long to see the results of his South Dakota trip.

Through some hard fought efforts, the Texas/USA forces finally won Nebraska.  The fighting was now concentrated in South Dakota.  They’d resigned themselves to a long and bloody battle, when suddenly the ASA soldiers started surrendering.  They laid down their weapons ( Read more... )

They had no desire for a lot of fuss or a big celebration.

Of course, not everyone agreed with their approach.

Hee! I do love the idea of the entire town basically seeing their wedding as a reason to party.

When Beck resisted that pressure, the big guns were brought in - Gail.

Bwahahaha!!! Resistance is futile!!

(Jake had finally proposed to Emily.)

DON'T DO IT! Whoops - sorry, that was my outside voice... (sorry - I couldn't resist...)

“You mean that I should agree to a big wedding celebration to atone for my past actions as an ASA officer?”

Bwahahahaha!! Leave it to Beck to get right to the heart of the matter. Could be worse atonement, though, I suppose... ;)

They both recognized it would be futile to keep resisting.

Oh, look! There it is! LOL

Beck wanted to ask Jake to be his best man

Makes sense. Again, it shows us how far our boys have come.

Fortunately, Jake being Jake, he didn’t wait to be asked. He just assumed he’d be Beck’s best man, and started acting accordingly.Bwahahaha!! Good ol' Jake! ( ... )

I was trying to figure out a way to work the exact quote in, but couldn't get the syntax right. Yes - I'm a big Star Trek - TNG fan!! (Does that make Gail equivalent to the Borg Queen? Sorry - been watching too much sci fi!!)

I don't really like her as a character or hate her. She basically just did nothing for me. Given that Heather is with Beck, and Heather and Emily are friends, the Jake/Emily relationship is a convenient plot point for this story.

I, of course, hate her with a passion so it's very difficult for me to treat her "correctly" in my fic. I at least TRY, though *looks virtuous* . :)
