One of the sneaky things about happiness is that you have to make it for yourself. Sure you could coast along and let your enjoyment be dictated by the whims and flights of fancy of the Universe at Large, but why on Earth would you want to? The world is what you make of it, not the other way around.

While I can agree with the statement I also admit that I always hated statements like that. My old boss would be a complete bitch and then she'd bitch about me being in a bad mood and say things like "you could choose to be in a good mood." Of course since she was the boss I couldn't say "you could choose to not be a douche all the damn time!"

But yeah, I think there are times when we as humans can accept this statement and take it to heart and other times when we just can't make it happen.

Man, I wasted a lot of your comment space with that. Sorry. But I hope you're having a great day :)

I know the statement isn't helpful when you're in a bad or depressed mood. It is also usually one of the last things you want to hear most of the time as well, but that doesn't make it any less true.

I think the important thing to keep in mind is that, while you may not be able to "choose" your mood, if your mood sucks, and there's a reason for it, you gotta at least do SOMETHING to try and fix the situation.

I've had a lot of frustration with friends and acquaintances over that simple fact. Even just doing something can make you feel better.

while moods will often swing which way they will, how you deal with them (and which you choose to accept) is what makes the difference.

hahaha my life has been a freaking mess for a while now and I spent most of the winter living in my van but I'm happier than I've ever been. It really is what you make of it.
