I am watching the evening re-broadcast of the We Are One concert and it sets me to thinking. It's about six months later than my 4th of July diatribe, and I am finding it interesting how I am having such a very different reaction to the patriotism I am seeing on TV right now vs what I saw on the 4th here in my hometown ( Read more... )

Yay! I'm glad to hear that you are feeling so optimistic. I think Obama is pretty well aware that a lot of people have unreasonable expectations of him and that he will hear from them when the world isn't completely fixed six months from now. I think he's ready for that. And while there were some notable omissions from today's festivities (a Native American presence would have been particularly welcome, for one) I really did, as you say, feel included. Well, I am definitely with you on wanting the DVD! Though I hope that includes Bishop Robinson's invocation, and IDs the various choirs.

In a way, Barack's job is made easier by the fact that, after Bush, there is no where but up to go. Still, he has set lofty goals. Let's see how well we work together to see them come to pass. I am probably always going to be to the left of left, too, but at least now the center has come a little closer to us.

Did you see the story that Barack once *did* support gay marriage?

My hope on the gay marriage thing is that he was saying what he felt he had to say in order to get elected, and in his second term (please oh please) he will feel free to make some bolder moves in that direction.

Time will tell...
